Brian J. Schmidt, MD, FACS, is pleased to provide the state-of-the-art robotic da Vinci® surgery for hernia and gallbladder surgeries. The da Vinci System features a magnified 3D high-definition vision system and special wristed instruments that bend and rotate far greater than the human wrist.
There is a very limited availability of this type of surgery in the region. da Vinci® surgery allows Dr. Schmidt to operate with enhanced vision, precision, dexterity and control. The latest robotic and computer technologies scale, filter and seamlessly translate his hand movements into precise micro-movements of the da Vinci instruments.
The da Vinci Surgical System is the only commercially available technology that can provide a specially trained surgeon with the same repair and removal options of traditional open surgery, while only requiring 1-2 cm incisions (approximately the size of a dime).
Dr. Schmidt also completed additional da Vinci training to offer the recently FDA approved Single-Site® technology which allows him to perform surgery on the gallbladder through a single incision in the navel. This type of approach makes the procedure even less invasive and the patient virtually scar free. As a result of this technology, the potential benefits include a lower rate of recurrence, pain and shorter hospital stay.
Dr. Schmidt received his medical doctorate from the Medical College of Ohio. He completed his general surgery residency at the Mayo Clinic and is board certified in general surgery.
