News

Paragon Surgical Specialists and Brian J. Schmidt, MD, FACS, are pleased to provide the state-of-the-art robotic da Vinci® surgery for hernia surgeries. The da Vinci System features a magnified 3D high-definition vision system and special wristed instruments that bend and rotate far greater than the human wrist. Schmidt, Brian MD (suit coat) 10-15-2013 11-09-15 AMThere is a very limited availability of this type of surgery in the Cabarrus County region.

Da Vinci® surgery allows Dr. Schmidt to operate with enhanced vision, precision, dexterity and control. The latest robotic and computer technologies scale, filter and seamlessly translate his hand movements into precise micro-movements of the da Vinci instruments.

The da Vinci Surgical System is the only commercially available technology that can provide a specially trained surgeon with the same repair and removal options of traditional open surgery, while only requiring 1-2 cm incisions (approximately the size of a dime).

“I have seen patients satisfaction with postoperative pain and scars improve with robotic surgery”

Dr. Schmidt emphasizes there are many advantages to performing the da Vinci surgery, so he presents it to patients when it is suitable for their particular conditions as an option.  “I have seen patients satisfaction with postoperative pain and scars improve with robotic surgery,” he said.

Dr. Schmidt received his medical doctorate from the Medical College of Ohio. He completed his general surgery residency at the Mayo Clinic and is board certified in general surgery.
